Next up the Milton Keynes Bolts welcome Chelmsford Mischiefs to Planet Ice, Milton Keynes on Friday 16th September, face off at 23:55.

Milton Keynes Bolts look to avenge recent results that have seen them lose back to back games in the first time since the clubs recent formation. Bolts coming off the wrong end of a 7-6 home delete to Oxford Shooting Stars and two week later facing the long drive home from Hull following a close fought game, unfortunately falling 6-4 to Kingston City Knights. These results bringing the Bolts six games unbeaten streak to an end.

The Mischiefs are no stranger to Milton Keynes, traveling recently to play fellow Milton Keynes team Jesters, it was the Jesters that took the spoils 6-4. This too bringing the mischiefs long un-beaten streak to an end.

Bolts have not met the Mischiefs before however we are expecting a great, close contested game going by both teams previous results. With both teams set to make a point and get back to winning ways it is set for a barnstormer!

Come on down and support the Bolts!

The Bolts faced off early Saturday morning against a much fancied Oxford Shooting Stars side at their home barn of Planet ice Milton Keynes.

The First period started extremely positively for the Bolts when on their first shift top Finnish Defenceman Miika “RPG” Ilkko struck from the blue line past the Oxford nettie to put the Bolts up 1 – 0 and he then netted another one soon after to put the Bolts up 2 – 0. The Oxford side then dug in scoring 4 unanswered goals to put the Oxfordshire side 2 – 4 up until very late in the first the Bolts pulled a late goal back through Russian import Anatoly Obhukov to close the period 3 – 4 in favour of the visitors.

The second period saw both sides very evenly matched trading goals with Bolts Andy Watt scoring two with both assists coming from Andy Crichton-Smith. Even scoring two the Bolts struggled to put shots on goal maintaining possession but the Oxford D being very tight and stingy allowing only 4 shots on Ben Robinson. The second period closed seeing a desperate lunge from rookie Mark “Lumberjack” Thornton conceding a tripping penalty rather than let the Oxford Star proceed on Bolts nettie Jay Bazzone who faced 46 shots in the whole game. The period closed with Oxford ahead by 5 – 6.

The third was again a very tight affair with both sides working extremely hard to gain dominance but the Oxford side regained a 2 goal lead to put them 5 – 7 up. The Bolts continued to pressure on the Stars with 18 shots on goal in the third but only coming up with one goal with less than 5 minutes remaining from Jamie Hooper to bring the score closer at 6 – 7.

Bolts continued to pile the pressure on even pulling the goalie with 30 seconds left to force the draw but it proved fruitless. The game closed at 6 – 7 in favour of the visitors in which was a very even, competitive and well played game from both sides.

The Bolts made the trip to Nottingham to face the Sheriffs in the return game and played on the big pad in the motorpoint arena.

Unfortunately the Sheriffs Nettie didn’t make the journey which meant that Bolts had to play 3 bar to score whereas Bolts Nettie Sy Stevens had to face the Sheriffs.

The first period started slowly with the Bolts adjusting to the differing scoring method and scored first But then Finnish import Miika “RPG” Ilkko took a 2 minute penalty for tripping and and just as he returned to the ice the Sheriffs levelled the score at one a piece. That was the last goal the Sheriffs were to score and the period ended 2 – 1 with Crichton-Smith and Hall the Bolts scorers.

The second period score didn’t really reflect the dominance Bolts had but the team passed the puck well and had control at all times with little pressure being but on nettie Stevens who only faced about 20 shots the whole game. The second period ended 3 – 1 with a solitary Steve Greenaway goal.

The third period was a more lively affair with several penalties but goals galore. Mark “lumberjack” Thornton spent 6 minutes with the Nottingham penalty box girls eating sweets after two over exuberant tripping penalties and a checking call where he couldn’t move out of the way and the incoming skater didn’t keep his head up.

The penalty kill was never really troubled and scorers Crichton-Smith, Hall, Greenaway and Obhukov brought the game to a close with the score finishing 8 – 1.
